Partnerships for Protecting Plants and Habitats

October 25-27, 2017

Framingham, MA

Hosted and Sponsored by:

New England Wild Flower Society and the U.S.D.A. Forest Service

Native plants are the foundation of all ecosystems and botanic gardens are uniquely positioned to promote their use in the landscape, while protecting them in the wild and in living collections. Creative partnerships between botanic garden staff, industry professionals, and government agencies are crucial in securing the future of native plants and habitats.

Join us for a symposium hosted by New England Wild Flower Society’s Garden in the Woods, for an opportunity to network with other professionals focused on native plant and plant conservation issues.

On Wednesday, the symposium will be preceded by an optional optional hands-on training workshop that will teach participants how to apply the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria to prepare high quality, scientifically based extinction risk assessments to facilitate prioritization of threatened species for informed conservation action. The workshop is sponsored by The Morton Arboretum.

In addition to Garden in the Woods, participants will have the opportunity to visit the Rose Kennedy Greenway and the Arnold Arboretum during the symposium and experience an optional post-symposium tour of the Polly Hill Arboretum on Martha’s Vineyard.
