Workshop Description This workshop will provide and in depth introduction and/or review of basic soil characteristics. This workshop is great for beginners with little soils training other than using the Hydric Soil Key. Begin to understand the soil characteristics and how they affect what and where you delineate. Become aware of where you are in the landscape and the plant communities around you. Learn how to use the USDA-NRCS Official Series Descriptions. Learn and/or sharpen your texturing skills which are important to using the Hydric Soil Key. Understand how the Munsell Color charts are set up and what the basic trends are. Instructors will present methods that meet certification and regulatory standards for soil scientists, wetland scientists, subsurface soil inspectors and others. This is the first of a series of Introductory/RefresherSoil Workshops. Attendance is limited to facilitate quality learning and discussion time in the soil pits.
