Walking Tour: How 2 Rivers Changed the Course of Amesbury, June 2 at 2 pm

Hidden along Amesbury's lower Powow River are the long-forgotten places where Native Americans lived and built fishing weirs, where the first English settlers set down their roots in the wilderness, where Revolutionary War heroes and spiritualist heroines lived, and where innovators in clockmaking, shipbuilding and manufacturing started their trades.

Come explore this old riverfront neighborhood on a free walking tour on Saturday, June 2 at 2 p.m., starting at the Union Congregational Church, 350 Main St. The route, which follows Main Street, is about 1 mile. The program will be presented by John Macone, an Amesbury resident and development specialist at the Merrimack River Watershed Council. This is part of the "Magnificent Merrimack" program, the MRWC's continuing series of lectures about the Merrimack and its watershed.

This walking tour is co-sponsored by the Merrimack River Watershed Council, the Friends of the Powow River, and the Union Congregational Church Restoration and Preservation Alliance.
