Overview: 

Conservation commissions frequently must make decisions about permitting invasive plant management activities in wetland resource areas.What information will help a commission prepare Orders of Condition for this work? A brief review of the most common invasives associated with resource areas, and the rationale for controlling them, will be presented. To provide some guidance on management options, I will describe the three levels of control options that we have use in our management work. Projects that have been successfully permitted will also be featured. 

Our Presenter:

Joan Deely has been a project manager and permitting specialist with Land Stewardship, Inc. for 10 years. LSI works on invasive plant control and habitat restoration projects throughout New England.  Joan has an MS Environmental Studies from Antioch University New England and a BA in Cultural Anthropology from UMass/Amherst. She served on the Northfield Conservation Commission for 16 years. This summer, she will relinquish that post and join the Leverett commission.

DAY OF THE WEBINAR

 
To join the webinar:

·      Enter the webinar platform at 11:50AM

·      To attend, visit URL:  http://maccweb.adobeconnect.com/lunchandlearn/

·      Simply click this URL or cut and paste into your browser.

·      NOTE: If you have not used our webinar platform before, it may ask you to download AdobeConnect  applet.

·      Click Yes to download and then run the installer to get the applet onto your device.

·      This will put a green “window box” on your start menu or desktop.

·      Now try to re-enter the room.

·      Select “enter as a guest”;

·      In the box, type your first and last name, and Town then press enter to proceed to the meeting room.

Issues with connectivity please call the office.

Please, wait patiently for the meeting host to allow your entrance to the webinar.  Once your request has been granted, the meeting room will load onto your screen;

 

As the meeting room loads, you will be asked to join the audio conference.  

·      Choose either: “Dial in to the conference via phone”; or “Using computer audio”.


 

Information on Webinar audio choices include:

·      Join the audio conference using your computer:
             o  Mute your microphone by clicking the arrow next to the microphone

                                  icon in the upper left of the meeting room interface and choose “mute

my microphone”;

o   Unmute choose “unmute my microphone”

 

No microphone or speakers in your computer? Please join via telephone:

 

Our toll-free telephone conference line:
                o   Dial (866) 918-5661;
                o   At prompt, enter conference code 512 366 8894.

 

·      Once connect via phone:
                o   Mute your telephone by pressing *6;
                o   Unmute, press #6;
                o   To avoid feedback echo, be sure your computer speakers are off.


 

Once in the meeting room:

·      If you cannot see the chat pod, click the “Full Screen” button in the upper right of the Adobe Connect meeting room interface (this should adjust your screen and allow viewing of both the share pod and the chat pod);

·       Adobe recommends that all first-time users run the Audio Setup Wizard under the Meeting menu.  The Meeting menu button is located on the upper-left corner of the Adobe Connect meeting room interface.

 

As a reminder, throughout the program, webinar participants can expect to:

·      View webinar video on your computer screen

·       Hear webinar audio via your computer’s speakers, your headset, or your telephone (your   choice);

·       Ask webinar-related questions via the chat pod;

·      Respond to instructor-generated questions via pods and/or your audio;

To optimize your webinar experience:
*Ideally: Use a wired internet connection - it’s more effective than a wireless connection;

·       Be sure you have all other applications on your computer closed;
