News on Invasive Spotted Lanternflies

Friday, October 2, 2020

On September 25, the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) announced that it had confirmed two new spotted lanternfly finds in Massachusetts. The specimens were accidentally brought into Massachusetts on materials shipped from Pennsylvania. MDAR also indicated that nursery stock with spotted lanternfly egg masses and adults may have been unintentionally imported into the state. This includes stock from nurseries located throughout New England who are importing and then reselling plants from counties within the quarantine zone in Pennsylvania.

We urge you to share this information widely and to ask your membership to check for signs of spotted lanternfly and report any findings. Outreach is the most important tool we have for preventing the spread of this pest.
