Fall Conference - Workshops & Exhibits

Please joins us on October 20, 2018, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, for MACC's Fall Conference at the DoubleTree by Hilton, in Leominster, Massachusetts. This year we have classes and workshops for all backgrounds and experience! We anticipate 200 participants will attend this year's "MACC ACADEMY". This year we are offering six (6) units of Fundamentals for Conservation Commissioners so you can start, or possibly complete, your certificate training. We are also offering four (4) brand new workshops.

The morning/afternoon classes run concurrently and are 2.5 hours in duration. Attend one unit or one workshop in the morning and a different one in the afternoon. Be sure to browse our Exhibits and our PublicationsTables between classes.

Six Fundamentals Units

Our offerings include:

  • FUNDAMENTALS UNIT 102: Wetlands Protection Act Fundamentals, Process and Procedures.
  • FUNDAMENTALS UNIT 103: Plan Review and Site Visit Procedures.
  • FUNDAMENTALS UNIT 104: Wetland Functions and Values.
  • FUNDAMENTALS UNIT 105: Writing Effective Orders of Conditions.
  • FUNDAMENTALS UNIT 202: Protecting Wildlife Habitat.
  • FUNDAMENTALS UNIT 204: Managing Conservation Land: Inventories, Goals and Conflicts.

Four Brand New Workshops

Our offerings include:

  • TRAILS I: Trail Work and the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act: What Happens When These Paths Cross? Experts will share case studies in order to clarify the issues facing conservation commissions and trail builders across Massachusetts.
  • TRAILS II: MACC is offering a second trails workshop to address difficult issues related to Building Sustainable and Accessible Trails in Massachusetts.
  • FORESTS: Massachusetts Forestry Regulations and Practices will be reviewed to help our Commissioners and environmental specialists understand forest cutting plans and forestry regulations through the use of case study examples.
  • RIVERFRONT AREA: Riverfront Area case studies are important to MACC members. This workshop will review performance standards, provide a check list of how to apply performance standards, and provide pertinent case studies.

Nourishment and Networking

Participants will be treated to morning breakfast goodies, a buffet lunch, and afternoon coffee. There will be a cash bar at the end of the day to allow time for networking with your fellow conservation commissioners, consultants, and other environmental experts.

MACC's Young Professionals Committee will gather at the end of the day in the pub to discuss the day's events, and plan upcoming Young Professionals Committee meetings.

Shop our MACC publications table with selections perfect for the beginner, hobbyist and experienced naturalist. Our handbook, field guides, manuals and regulations will all be available for purchase.
